For the first time in Brueton’s history, a limited edition product will be offered. Only 75 if these magnificent tables will be produced. The Ancient Egyptian emphasis on formal geometry, canon of proportion, visual clarity and order as well as strict reorganization and display of time, space and narrative served as the basis for so much of what today is considered the Classical aesthetic tradition. In other words, radical stylization, abstraction even, underlies even the earliest forms of ‘naturalism’ or ‘realism’ in the Western artistic tradition.
The Egypt table designed by Stanley Jay Friedman is an homage to the Classicism and Modernism, with its elegant and staid geometric design. However the decorative patterning of English White Sycamore and Wenge bring to life the fantastic human desire for creation, communication and ornament that is at the heart of what is considered to be the most fundamental of forms. The Pyramids and other Egyptian royal artistic production, after all, were just as much of a dazzling spectacle in their own time as the Hollywood versions of Ancient Egypt in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The Parthenon was brightly polychromed. The Venus de Milo wore jewelry.
During its short window of production in the 1990s, the Egypt table had an MSRP of 45,000 USD.
